I’m starting a Blog!
Hello readers! I’ve decided to start a blog about my current projects, mostly game development-related, but who knows what might land here in the future.
‘Yet another useless blog no one will ever read?’, you may ask yourself. But to that I can only say that this is really only for me.
I doubt anyone will learn anything from this, at least not for a while. Instead, the point of this is to serve as an extended portfolio, to document my process and progress while making games, and push myself to a steady bi-weekly ‘release’ cycle. This is also the time frame I plan to release a blog: every other Friday. Let’s see how that goes.
A disclaimer: The contents of this blog will be me vomiting words onto a page to chronicle everything I did. This means that post will probably be very rough, but I’ll take that instead dreading to spend multiple hours writing this every other week. Sorry!
What kind of content you will see here
Literally anything game dev related. I love making games and love to learn everything there is about making them. I think the most prevalent content will be programming/scripting, 3D art, and game design, but certainly other topics like UI/UX, 2D art, sound, and more. I will probably put a tag on every blog entry for you to be able to quickly tell what project a specific post is about and what the post contains.
For now, I am working with Unreal Engine 5 most of the time. In the future, I plan to expand to Godot and like the idea of working on various modding projects.
What projects I’m working on
Right now, I have two projects in active development and four shelved projects. My active projects are:
Maize (Working Title)
A survival horror game set in rural Texas featuring a randomly generated maize players are being chased through by evil scarecrows.
This Is (Not) a Cult
A tycoon game where you build and manage your cult, unlock rituals and traits and bring forth the end of the world.
Both use Unreal Engine 5. I am switching back and forth between these two projects to keep me motivated when I lose interest in one of them for a time.
The projects currently shelved are:
Waking Nightmare
A custom zombies map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 heavily inspired by Shadows of Evil, closed-quarters maps like Verrückt or Shang Ri La, and classic Lovecraftian horror. Currently in early development.
Hellfighter
A tactical combat board game inspired by games like X-Com, aimed at bringing skirmish-like games to a casual audience. A big focus is ease of play and straightforward systems that still provide depth.
An untitled DnD One-Shot
A DnD one-shot I ran some time ago that I felt showed a lot of promise. My idea is to update it and release it as a zine or something similar.
Pickman’s Model
An environment in UE5 inspired by one of my favourite short stories by Lovecraft of the same name.
That covers everything there is to know about this blog. If you read this until the end, you can ask yourself why you’ve wasted 3 minutes of your life. If, for some reason, you don’t ask yourself this question, maybe I’ll be seeing you in my next post. Or rather … you will see … read me in my next post. How do you end these things?
